A significant Australian Story that was lost, but now found
thanks to Colin Choat (Project Gutenberg) and Trove (Australian digitalised newspapers).

Aidan de Brune
(Born: Herbert Charles Cull 17 July 1874 – Died: Aidan de Brune 15 February 1946),
journalist, author, pedestrian, was the first person in recorded history
to walk around the perimeter of Australia, unaccompanied and unassisted.

He set off in 1921, unaccompanied and unassisted,
and walked 10,000 miles (16,000km)
from Sydney to Sydney, anticlockwise.
He completed his epic walk in 1924.

Everywhere he walked people signed his travel diary,
evidencing his presence at the places he passed through.
He was a journalist and regularly wrote articles about his walk,
which appeared in newspapers around Australia.

Aidan de Brune wrote crime and mystery stories
which were serialised in newspapers in the 1920s and beyond.
His works were highly regarded.
